Guiding Philosophy

Our school offers a British-style international education which integrates a thematic and inquiry-based learning approach complementing core English and Mathematics education. Our mission is to foster young people who enjoy learning, can work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and think critically.

We want all children at Phoenix House to become absorbed in and passionate about their studies. Finding subject areas they love while challenging themselves in others will be part of everyday school life. We are excited to bring learning to life and ensure all children build strong foundations of knowledge and skills for a lifetime of learning.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum in England, employing the best of its well-structured contents and enhancing it to suit our context here in East Asia.

All children will study:

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Geography

  • History

  • Japanese

  • Music and Drama

  • Art and Design

  • PE (Physical Education)

  • PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education)

  • Computing

Studies are organised thematically, with several subjects combined into a class theme to enable and encourage curiosity, enquiry and collaboration.

Teaching by subject specialists in music, art and PE, alongside text-rich time in the library with class teachers are part of every week at Phoenix House.

Our vision is to be an international school with a language-rich community of learning. All subjects, except Japanese Language, are taught in English.

It is compulsory for all children to study Japanese; we are committed to high-quality language learning with a focus on confidence in:

  • Speaking and listening fluency

  • Reading and writing skills

  • Grammar and vocabulary

  • Literature appreciation

After-school clubs and language programmes will also be available for those seeking the study of other languages.
